Falling in love with fall, once again

I’d like to share something dear with you: I adore this time of year. The rusted auburns, beaming oranges, and golden browns delight me into a sense of childlike wonder. Isn’t fall a slice of heaven on earth? Mother Nature’s best and brightest canvas, debuting in the grandest showroom of all? (And the charge is free for everyone; animal and human alike!)

With a mere seven minute drive to see the color-filled scene above, I’d spend every waking moment up the Ogden Canyon during these weeks of fall’s glory, if I could. When I took this picture a few days ago, I sat on a large water-worn rock, favorite book and pen in hand. I smelled the evergreens, drank in fresh air, and felt the slight breeze swaying the leaves around me.

Soaking in the colors and words, I found a serenity of the senses. This beauty set me free to explore my deepest thoughts. I felt such special closeness to God. What joy!

My ode to Autumn would not be complete without recognizing such sights cannot be fully appreciated secondhand on a computer. Don’t get me wrong: I live and work a connected life, a screen close at hand. I get it. But there’s nothing like getting out and seeing, feeling, and hearing for yourself. No wonder Thoreau spent his two years at Walden Pond, wrapped in the rugged purity of nature.

I encourage you, fellow writers and travelers through life, to get out and embrace the colors! This free pass to nature’s once-a-year museum has an expiration date, so there’s no time to waste. Take a pen.

Let the inspiration flow!

P.S. A housekeeping item, reader friend: I’ve decided to make Saturday Spotlights more of a surprise. With many, many more writers to share, you’ll be seeing them pop up at least monthly. Cheers!
